(LATEST, OUT OF THE BLUE DROP TO MY AGENT…)
A NEPHEW WITH AN UNCLE –picture book, 293 words. Reminiscent to the extended family relationships depicted by Else Holmelund Minarik’s classic, LITTLE BEAR’S VISIT (illustrated by Maurice Sendak). This minimal prose tale describes the meaningful moments when a nephew flies, rides, and touches the sky with his uncle. (Favourite uncle vibes to the max, here.)
THE MURDER OF A FAERIE GODMOTHER –YA, 🧚🏼♂️💃🏼🕺🧚🏻♀️CURRENT WIP;🤴🏻🧙♀️🥷🧚
When a talented young assassin is hired to kill an innocent student it’s a plot to create world chaos and an inter-realm war of the ages! The assassin’s subtle family conscience forces her to intervene. Now a faerie godmother is in the morgue and the inter-realm police are introducing that student to worlds she thought were only myths. Worse, somehow her boyfriend seems to be in the middle of everything. Her new best friend, was hired to kill her, and her step-family seems to have been lying to her since her dad died. Syndra could really use a faerie godmother right about now, but her’s has been murdered and the assassin seems to be the only one who knows what’s really going on. Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess if the assassin will turn out to be the villain or a savior.
THE ROAD-MAKER OF MONTANA – picture book <400 words, on submission in 2025; based on my father—a hard-working master of his trade, whose talent joined with big machinery was called on to lay roads from Glacier Park to Yellowstone Park, the Highline, Going-to-the-sun, the Beartooth Highways, and countless streets between. (It’s a story from my heart.)
(My lovechild😍👇)
CHILDREN OF THE UNSEEN – high fantasy, WIP; in a world-rich blended-family fantasy, one mother must risk her beloved sons of prophecy, introducing each to a world she’s done everything to hide them from and lead all of her young children to their own sacrifice. If she fails, they’ll fail to save the world within the four winds.
On a venture to every corner of the world, four young brothers must reevaluate their moralistic view of the various cultures they encounter discovering who they truly are along the way. Will they be able to make the sacrifice required to save the worlds they did and didn’t know existed?
This tale is character-centered. The adventure includes time-twisting lights, fae, trolls, little people, a demon-race, and wicked marvellours corrupting a powerful prince. Did I mention the dragons, phoenix, pegasus, and unicorns within? (Did you know phoenix eggs look like big ol’ ugly rocks? 🪨)
PANSIES, PETUNIAS, and a PORCUPINE PARTY – picture book, 530 words. Introducing a pack of porcupines by their proper name—a prickle!
Alliteration combines with whimsy in the possible tale of a prickle of porcupines packing onto Peter’s patio and pillaging his pretty pansies and petunias!
All’s well when Peter is invited to participate in a porcupine parade. In the end Peter ponders if it was all a dream, after he discovers his patio is spotless and his plants are still perfect and proud.
MOUNTAIN BLUES, DAVID BUILT A HOUSE FOR YOU – picture book, under complete revision:
David is forced to write a new penpal as part of a class project — the nerve of his teacher! When his new “pal” makes the most of David’s reluctant conversation, an unwanted and completely unlikely bird-loving friendship migrates between the Northwest and Southwest, but it’s a little complicated.
WHEN A SCHOOL GOES QUIET – picture book, 644 words; born from a conversation with a teacher on the terror children feel during lockdown drills and the need for creative ways to calm children about quietness. Whisper sprites can only dream of visiting a fun, busy, and a noisy place like elementary schools. They’re fragile creatures who could break from too loud of sounds. But one day the school fell silent and one sprite looked for a chance to explore the wondrous school.
What the sprite found was a friend who enjoyed quiet times, too.
GOLDEN – young adult, WIP, currently undergoing peer critique-driven edits, 60,000 words;
On the cusp of adulthood Golden is bored, feeling lonely, and she hates her nickname. Looking to change things up, she agrees to join her best friend for a summer adventure. Worse yet, as she’s trying to figure out what to do with her life, she gets hopelessly lost. Golden continues down a spiralling road of poor choices before ending up in a mess too embarrassing NOT to hide from. With some self-reflection and self-preservation, perhaps she will still find a way home. But will she ever find an escape from her shame? She was looking for a place to belong… but one thing’s for certain, Golden never imagined finding herself in the young artist, Josiah Barry’s closet!
